Mooloolaba SUP Fest Official Launch Press Release

The Sunshine Coast SUP Club and World Surfaris are delighted to announce the inaugural Mooloolaba SUP Fest from July 23-25, 2021 (inclusive). Initially targeted for July 2020, the covid-19 pandemic forced the postponement of this new Festival initiative.

The SUP Club, industry professionals, and event managers noticed that there was a significant gap in the market for SUP events on the east coast of Australia. We’ve devised a SUP Fest that offers truly unique opportunities for competitors and visitors, all set in the glorious beauty of the Sunshine Coast. The SUP Fest will include a technical race, a downwind event, a Flatwater Challenge and an overall Paddle Master category. Foils are also invited to compete.

The SUP Fest hub will be held in and around the beautiful waters of The Spit at Mooloolaba, Queensland. It is the ideal location with nearby access to both flat water canals and open and protected. In addition to the wonderful setting, Mooloolaba is well provisioned with great accommodation options and excellent cafes and restaurants.

The Sunshine Coast SUP Club is a local, not-for-profit association with enthusiastic and experienced office bearers. To ensure the SUP Fest is professionally managed, World Surfaris have been appointed as the Event Manager. World Surfaris is also the Event Manager for the Byron Bay Surf Festival and the Noosa Festival of Surfing. In addition, Mr Chris Price has been appointed the Race Director for the SUP Fest. Chris has extensive experience in event management and is the creator of the Old Woman Island Paddle, which was first held in September 2019.

Our Club caters for paddlers of all ages and abilities. We aim to provide a platform for greater development of the sport of Stand Up Paddleboarding on the Sunshine Coast by hosting and supporting family days, races, surfing competitions, providing instructional assistance and special events such as the Mooloolaba SUP Fest. With World Surfaris and Chris Price as the professional Management Team, we believe our all-volunteer SUP Club will be able to host a premier SUP Festival. Between us, we have extensive event management experience and are invested in seeing SUPing grow on the Sunshine Coast, nationally and globally.

Stand Up Paddleboarding is a healthy, friendly, community-orientated sport with an international audience and an environmentally sustainable footprint. We thank the Sunshine Coast Council for their support. And we thank you for participating – whether as partners, competitors, volunteers or visitors – in the groundbreaking Mooloolaba SUP Fest 2021.
